Vastu Tips for Ideal Kitchen Setup

Kitchen is the most important part of the house as food is prepared in this space. In ancient times, cooking was done on stoves out in the open – a reason why Vastu guidelines were primarily based on the Sun and wind directions. However today, kitchen has become a compact, efficient and safe and so the planning is different. Here are a few vastu tips for your kitchen.

Entrance... The kitchen door should face East, North or West and not be placed in any of the corners.

Cooking Gas Stove... The gas stove or any other cooking material should be placed in a way that the cook faces east while cooking. Facing west may lead to health problems and facing south may lead to financial problems in the family. No shelf should be placed above the cooking gas.

Gas Cylinder... The gas cylinder should be kept in southeast. Empty cylinder should be kept in southwest.

Dining ... The dining table should never be at the center of the kitchen and rather should be placed in northwest corner. One should face east or north while eating for good digestion.

Flooring... Ceramic tile flooring is a good choice for kitchen flooring as it is stain free, dust free and scratch resistant.

Sink... The sink should be placed in the farthest northeast of the kitchen.

Storage Racks... The storage racks with essentials like grain, spices, pulses, etc. should be in south or

west direction. The water source including pitcher, water filter, etc. may be kept in northeast.

Color... Any color is fine except for black. Yellow, orange, rose, chocolate or red is recommended though.

Refrigerator... Refrigerator can be placed in the southeast, south, west or north direction. If the refrigerator is in southwest direction, it should be at least a feet away from corner.

Electronics... Electronic items such as heaters, conventional ovens, micro-waves ovens etc. should be placed in southeast or south of the kitchen.

Windows... One or two windows or air holes in the east direction of the kitchen. Exhaust fan can also be placed in the east.
