Significance and Benefits of Rudraksha

Rudraksha beads are regarded as the timeless jewels of the gods. The yogis, saints and sages of the ancient Vedic scriptures used to carry Rudraksha beads for self-empowerment and in the path of self realization.

Rudraksha is the seed of a tree species known as Elaeocarpus which grows in the Himalayan region. These seeds are known to have a very unique vibration. According to ancient Puranas and Upanishads, Rudraksha trees have emanated from the tears of Lord Shiva. These beads have been considered to be mystic, occult or religious objects that do not go in congruence with modern science.

Traditionally, 108 beads are strung together as a mala plus one. The extra bead is the bindu in the absence of which people who are sensitive may become dizzy. It is normally recommended for an adult to wear 84 beads or more beads the bindu. The beads should be strung with either a silk thread or a cotton thread.

There exists 1 to 21 Mukhis of Rudraksha, however, 1 to 14 Mukhis is common. 4, 5 and 6 Mukhi Rudraksha beads are found easily and abundantly.
