Know your correct birth sign

Astrological science is spreading as rapidly amongst the Indian people as the fragrance of freshly made rose water spreads when sprinkled over a place. The odour of rose might subside with time but the popularity of astrological sciences is surely heading in only one direction and that is upwards. The willingness of the experienced astrologers of India to contribute to the knowledge coupled with the fast developing interest of the common people in occult science is creating such a scenario where-in the younger generation as well as the middle aged ones are seen joining hands to revive this field of science, which once upon a time was the domain of our country India.
Jyotish-Manthan, I must say has carved its own niche and is leading to rekindle the general interest in astrology. There are not many who are in real pursuit of excellence in this field. It is not easy to sideline the commercial aspects especially when a segment of market displays a gap between the demand & supply. Yes, you got it right. I am talking of the demand & supply gap in the astrological field. It is simple. The people seeking answers to their queries are many-many times more than the people who can really do astrologically analysis correctly and can give flawless replies exhibiting simultaneously the capability of convincing people into taking up remedial measures in true perspective.
More than two-third of the population are keen to know about their future and they do not loose any time if they can find an astrologer willing to read their charts or hands or their signature or may be just face-read them. I call them ‘Active followers’ of astrology. The remaining one-third, according to me, are also interested in some way or the other but prefer to remain tight lipped about it as most of them unfortunately carry a wrong notion of they might be labeled as ‘weak people’, if they aspire to learn astrology. These are according to me ‘Passive followers’ of astrology.

Form an overall perspective we have a good majority of people who keep interest in Astrology, some believing more in Palmistry, some in Numerology, some in getting analyzed through a proper horoscope. The popularity of Astrological science is escalating fast. The acceptance in public has become so great that the readership growth of several newspapers & magazines have started depending upon the space they provide for the astrological readings. It will not matter if the viewpoint of a journal is different, it also does not matter if the cause of the periodical is not be of any relevance to astrology subject, but if it prints astrological forecasts, it gets larger readership.  No newspaper or periodical is considered to be complete if it does not have such a column.

In such a scenario, the basic question to all of us followers is, ‘Do we really know what our correct individual astro sign is? There are 12 astro signs; even a school going kid knows that now. But to which one of it you actually belong to is the question to which most of the people do not have the technically right answers. I have observed people choosing their astro sign based on random facets, rushing for the paper in the early hours of the day and unfolding it in such a perfect fashion that the astro page open first as if those few words are going to decide their day’s line of action. A belief is a belief and there is nothing wrong in it. But if they read the prediction against the sign which does not belong to them then they might end up doing the opposite.

I consider it very important for everyone to correctly understand how they can find their actual birth sign. Though this is a very simple task for even an ‘under-graduate astrologer’ but it still carries importance for the forecast seekers as it one of the basics and no one can move ahead in life if the basics are wrong. The people and specially the newer generation would then atleast not read the wrong one’s and cry foul later or blame it on astrology as is still a favourable practice when things do not go our way.

Wake up, first find out whether the predictions given against the 12 birth signs are based on Moon or are based on Sun.

Remember that birth signs based on Sun are according to your date of birth. This is western system. For example if you are born between 21st May & 20th June your birth sign based on Sun would be Gemini. If you are born between 20th Jan & 19th Feb your sun based birth sign would be Aquarius. This is all based on Equinox. Hence if it is mentioned in the column that the predictions are based on Sun, then choose your sign according to your date of birth. Alternatively the information can be that the forecast is based on your date of birth. They mean the same.

Now, what would you do if the predictions given in a magazine / Newspaper / journal are based on Moon (Indian system)?

You would then have to find out your birth sign from your horoscope (natal chart). For this open the Janam-kundali (natal chart), locate the house where your Moon (Chandra) is placed. There is a number associated with each of the 12 houses, written in the house itself. That number represents your birth sign based on Moon. If it is number 1 where your Moon is located then you are of raashi (astro sign) Aries (called ‘Mesh’ in Indian language), number 3 represents Gemini (Mithun), the number 12 represents Pisces (Meen). They specifies your Moon raashi.

In your chart if your Moon is placed in say, a house mentioning number 6, it would mean that your astro sign is ‘Kanya (called Virgo in English). Therefore if you are reading predictions based on Moon then you would have to know that birth sign in which the Moon is placed in your Janam-kundali.

There can be one more query here by the readers. What do they do if the column does not mention whether the predictions are Sun based or Moon sign based. Magazines of repute do not however, commit this error. Observe this chapter in every issue of Jyotish- Manthan. It mentions that the predictions are based on your Moon sign. If you come across absence of this information in any paper / magazine, you need to either find it out from the Editor of the column or put an end to reading the predictions. Yes Sir, there is no use of reading a prediction if you are not sure of the system on which it depends upon or you are not sure of your own birth sign.

In addition to the astro sign factor there are some more parameters which need to be kept in mind while searching for the right sign to read the predictions. Some of these additional parameters are the ‘Pratyantar dasha’ (sub-sub period), the ‘Antar-dasha (sub-period)’ and the ‘Mahadasha (Main period)’ in which you are passing through at that time,  the transit motion of the ever moving planets and the ‘Vedh’ ( dilution or neutralization) they are causing to the effect giving planets at that nick of the time. These are of factors of substantial importance and cannot be ignored while reading the predictions.

Readers, kindly do not get perplexed on this issue. Speak to an astrologer incase of any confusion.
